New on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, Stan, BINGE and more in August 2023

Streaming giants are powering on with new titles to catch this month on their platforms.

You may have heard there's both a writers' strike and an actors' strike on in Hollywood at the moment, but that's not slowing down new TV shows and movies on streaming just yet.

There are plenty of new series to check out, some classic movies and more.

What's new streaming on Netflix in August 2023

After much anticipation, One Piece comes to Netflix in August. Already a long-running anime series, a live-action version of the pirate adventure story based on the bestselling manga will be new on streaming this month.

The biggest returning series for Netflix in August is the new season of Heartstopper. The queer British teen romance series was a social media sensation when released and there is a lot of expectation for the new series. Also featuring new episodes this month will be The Upshaws, The Lincoln Lawyer, Ragnarok and more. There will also be new instalments of the Untold documentary series, including one with Jake Paul.

There are plenty of original movies streaming on Netflix this month, including the Gal Gadot-led action movie Heart of Stone and coming-of-age comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah starring Adam Sandler and his teenage daughters.

Zombies also feature heavily on streaming this month. There's the movie Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, where a worker wants to cross some things off his bucket list before succumbing to zombies. Then there's Zombieverse, a reality show where contestants have to survive a zombie apocalypse.

What's new streaming on BINGE and Foxtel Now in August 2023

Plenty of returning favourites are new on streaming with BINGE and Foxtel Now in August. There is the final season of Reservation Dogs, where you can expect road trips, bathroom wisdom, unexpected fathers, boarding schools, Bigfoot, rumours, revenge and healing. Also back for new instalments are Winning Time: The Rise of The Lakers Dynasty, Rap Sh!t, Men In Kilts: A Roadtrip With Sam And Graham and Gogglebox Australia.

If you're after some new shows, there's the reality series Charlotte In Sunderland. It follows Charlotte Crosby (Geordie Shore) as she pursues her personal and professional dreams in her hometown of Sunderland. Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake is based on characters from Adventure Time, and follows the alternate universe versions of Finn and Jake on a multiverse-hopping journey towards self-discovery. Elsewhere, The Catch follows a fisherman determined to keep his family together after a wealthy young man shows an interest in his daughter, and Icons Unearthed: Marvel is the latest in the series delving deeper into the formation and the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

More new titles on streaming for BINGE and Foxtel Now this month will be the arrival of horror movie M3GAN and the Oscar-nominated Aftersun after their cinema runs earlier this year.

What's new streaming on Stan in August 2023

New on streaming for Stan in August is the final season of the drama about power politics, Billions. In the final season, alliances are turned on their heads and loyalties are tested. Also Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world. Rag-to-riches comedy Killing It likewise returns to Stan in August.

Coming to the service too is The Winter King, a cinematic reinterpretation of the Arthurian legend based on Bernard Cornwell's The Warlord Chronicles.

Then there's the documentary Lucky! which follows Bernie Ecclestone on his lifelong quest to transform Formula 1 racing from the pastime of wealthy amateurs into a sport followed and loved by millions of people around the world.

What's new streaming on Prime Video in August 2023

This month on Prime Video look out for a couple of big new TV show premieres. For one there's The Lost Flowers of Alice Heart, based on Holly Ringland's best-selling novel. The family drama spans decades and focuses on Alice, who loses her parents at age 9 and goes to live with her grandmother at a flower farm where she learns secrets of her family's past.

You'll also be able to catch Red, White & Royal Blue on Prime Video. This series is about the son of the president of the United States and a British prince who have a long-running feud. After an altercation at a public event threatens US/British relations, the 2 are forced into a truce. But their relationship unexpectedly then begins to develop into something deeper.

Another new series to keep an eye on is Harlan Coben's Shelter, which follows the story of a teenager who starts a new life in New Jersey after the sudden death of his father. He then finds himself tangled in the mysterious disappearance of a new student at his school, which leads to uncovering secrets within their quiet suburban community. For returning series, keep an eye out for the new season of Cruel Summer. Prime Video will add to its Chicago Fire collection with season 9 to become available on the service.

If you're after some new movies on streaming, you'll be able to watch romantic drama Beautiful Disaster and action films Kandahar and director Guy Richie's latest Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. Plus, your spidey senses will be tingling as Prime Video gets a whole bunch of Spiderman movies dropping on the service.

What's new streaming on Disney Plus in August 2023

Disney Plus returns to a galaxy far, far away this August with the premiere of the latest Star Wars series, Ahsoka. After appearances in live action series The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano is the feature of her own series as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. Look out for other Star Wars characters making their live action debut too after appearing in various animated series.

Another original series premiere is A Murder at the End of the World. The mystery has a Gen Z amateur sleuth try to solve a murder at a billionaire's remote retreat.

There are lots of returning series on Disney Plus this month, with Paul Rudd and Meryl Streep joining the cast for a new Only Murders in the Building. Also lined up for new episodes are Chip 'n' Dale: Park Life, Solar Opposites and The Wonder Years reboot. You also get to say goodbye to High School Musical: The Musical: The Series as it screens its final episodes. Plus, after it aired in the US in June, we will finally get the latest season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Also, if you missed it at the cinemas or you just want to catch it again, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be new on streaming this month on Disney Plus.

What's new streaming on Paramount Plus in August 2023

August sees some social media stars make their TV series debut on Paramount Plus. The Inspired Unemployed (Impractical) Jokers features 4 mates competing to publicly embarrass each other. They must do and say what they're told, and if they refuse they face a humiliating punishment, all as hidden cameras capture what happens.

Then from across the ditch comes Far North. It's about how a comically inept gang got half a billion dollars' worth of meth to New Zealand shores and nearly sold it, only to have an everyday couple foil this international crime ring's largest ever deal in the Pacific.

If you're in the mood for a music doco, then check out the celebration of hip hop's 50th anniversary, Mixtape. There are also plenty of new movies streaming on Paramount Plus in August, including the horror of There's Something Wrong With The Children, black comedy On the Count of Three, the sci-fi of Vesper, the romance of Love In Taipei and comedy I Love My Dad. There's also Zoey 102, a follow up movie to classic series Zoey 101, where Zoey Brooks is still trying to figure out life and love, this time in her 20s.

Also, the Star Trek presences expands even more on Paramount Plus in August, when all seasons of the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks stream on the service.

What's new streaming on BritBox, Hayu, Apple TV Plus and more in August 2023

August will see the new and final season of Physical streaming on Apple TV Plus. After successfully launching her first fitness video, Sheila Rubin now finds her status challenged by rising celebrity exercise goddess Kelly Kilmartin, who becomes not only a professional threat, but also gets in her head.

BritBox continues to deliver quality UK crime drama series with the return of The Tower. The new season sees Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones) back as DS Sarah Collins. This time she's tasked with unravelling a 27-year-old cold case involving a missing girl, but finds herself entangled in a shocking new investigation.

Hayu will stream the return of Botched as doctors Terry Dubrow and Paul Nassif come back to take on complex cosmetic surgery cases. In a new office, the doctors consult with a series of patients as they unveil trauma due to past surgeries gone wrong, birth defects and accidents.

For your horror fix on Shudder this August you can check out the movie Bad Things. A getaway for a few girlfriends at a snowy resort becomes a nightmare as long-deceased guests and the resort itself comes to life in this haunting thriller.

The new season of The Chelsea Detective comes to Acorn TV in August. Detective Inspector Max Arnold is joined by sharp and quick-witted Detective Sergeant Layla Walsh from Exeter police. She has to get used to Max's unique style and the worst excesses of Chelsea as they investigate new cases.

Over on AMC Plus, you can not only catch all Acorn TV and Shudder content, but also the travel/memoir series You Are Here, hosted by actor, writer and director Colman Domingo (Euphoria, Fear The Walking Dead). He takes viewers on intimate tours of 4 American cities pivotal to his growth as an artist and an individual.
