Each year, we celebrate the best in telecommunications in Australia based on value for money, customer satisfaction and green credentials.
How do you find the best NBN plan?
Everyone's needs are different so consider the following when looking for the best NBN plan for your household:

The size of your household and what you're doing on the internet will determine which speed is appropriate for you. While most Australians are on an NBN 50 plan, an NBN 100 plan could be better for you if the majority of your household works from home. In fact, Finder's Consumer Sentiment Tracker found that more Australians are satisfied with an NBN 100 plan compared to any other NBN speed tier.

Having extra perks tacked onto your plan can be nice, but consider whether you'll actually make use of these or if you're happy with just a simple plug and play NBN plan.

If you already own a modem and are comfortable transferring it across to a new provider, it's a great way to keep your initial costs low. Otherwise, all providers offer a modem to purchase with your NBN plan. Just make sure you factor this cost in when you're signing up to your new plan.
Expert tip: Set yourself a reminder to compare NBN plans at the same time each year. Almost all NBN providers offer some sort of promotional discount for the first 6 months, which means you could be missing out on savings by sticking with the same provider for more than a year.

Compare to find the best NBN plan
There's no singular plan that will fit everyone. Compare NBN plans in our comparison table and adjust the filters to find one that suits your needs.
Methodology: How we researched the best NBN plans
- We looked at residential NBN plans in our database and opted for fixed-line technologies as they're widely available across each state.
- Other selection criteria to narrow down our list of top picks included looking at NBN plans that offer unlimited data and no lock-in contract.
- We worked out plan costs over the first 12 months then picked out the top 3 plans for each category, balancing the cost of each plan with its typical evening speed to ensure you're being offered the best bang for your buck.
For plans to be eligible in our analysis, they needed to meet the following criteria:
- Have an active NBN plan and deal available at the time of writing.
- The duration of the deal lasts for a minimum of 4 weeks.
- The NBN provider is an active partner on Finder.
To select the overall winner, our experts looked into the extra plan details of the top 3 finalists. This includes any associated modem costs, special features like satisfaction guarantees or entertainment bundles and performance in the quarterly ACCC Broadband Performance Reports if relevant.
